Amtrak Train Derails In North Carolina #NYCBound

Several people were injured today when an Amtrak train bound for NYC collided with a tractor-trailer in North Carolina and derailed.

Halifax County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Bruce Temple told the media that the incident happened around noon in the town of Halifax. The tractor-trailer apparently stalled on the tracks. Three cars derailed altogether: the front two cars, including the engine, plus a baggage car.

It’s unclear exactly how many people were hurt and taken to local hospitals, but Temple said there were no life-threatening injuries.

“There was a massive jerk and we were kind of thrown forward a little bit, and the train came to a sudden stop,” Charlotte Story, who was on the seventh car of the train, told CBS affiliate WRAL. “I couldn’t tell you if it was trying to slow down or not. There was no whistle. It came completely out of the blue.”
